BEAM THE MCKINNEY ORTHODONTICS WAY!

If you are having difficulty expressing your delight, then McKinney Orthodontics is the place to be!

Have you ever felt like your teeth are too forward, felt embarrassed not being able to close your mouth entirely, or been hesitant to smile because you have an extra tooth hanging? Well these are problems that can be addressed by an orthodontist. Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that addresses concerns with misalignment of teeth (malocclusion) and crowded or crooked teeth. Although a beautiful smile could be the most obvious benefit of orthodontics, malocclusion problems can also lead to chewing difficulties or gum diseases and even chronic headaches and facial and neck pain, which can be prevented if managed by a good orthodontic.

Orthodontic treatment is done with the use of an "appliance" (any device used to modify tooth position) or braces. Braces can correct a wide variety of problems-- crooked teeth, overcrowding, having wide spaces in between teeth, malocclusion, and other teeth and jaw or gum problems. Gone were the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now wear braces and be fashionable too! An orthodontic appliance can now be removable depending on your orthodontic's assessment. You can choose from clear or metallic color brackets, or your favorite color for the ties that hold wire in brackets. The wires are now less noticeable than they used to and the latest materials can correct teeth position faster with less discomfort. Braces are critical to the future of your oral health.

Children can start seeing an orthodontist at age 7 or once their permanent teeth start coming in to check if orthodontic treatment is required. When children's dental problems are attended early, the growth of the jaw and incoming permanent teeth are guided. Early treatment can also regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems.

But hey don't think that orthodontic treatment is too late for you! Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age. It was found that one of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21 years old. Impressive changes in a person's smile and profile can still be achieved past 21. You can actually look years younger by straightening crooked teeth or correcting an excessive overbite or an underbite. Properly aligned and supported teeth are healthier, easier to clean, and more likely to last throughout your lifetime.

Straight, aligned teeth can make it easier to chew food and can even help prevent snoring. A beautiful smile can increase self-confidence and, in turn, a sense of well-being. Good orthodontic care contributes greatly to oral health. So, don't let crooked teeth stand in the way of a confident smile. This is a great time to let and wear braces go of that radiant smile and what better way to care for your teeth and be dazzling at the same time but at McKinney's orthodontics!
